Willful

Delete your account

You can delete your Willful account, and everything stored in it, at any time. It takes a minute in the app.

In the app

  1. Open Willful and sign in.
  2. Go to Settings and tap Delete account.
  3. Read what will be erased, then tap Go to Account Deletion.
  4. Enter the phone number you signed in with and your passphrase, and confirm.

The account is deleted straight away. Asking for your passphrase is how we know it is really you: nobody else, including us, can delete your account from inside the app.

If you cannot sign in

If you have forgotten your passphrase, email privacy@willful.in from any address and give the phone number the account is registered to. Before deleting anything we confirm the request with the owner of that number, so nobody can erase someone else's account by asking.

What is deleted

Everything in your account, permanently:

None of it can be recovered afterwards — not by you, not by your family, and not by us. Most of it was encrypted on your phone and was never readable by us in the first place.

The one record we keep

We keep a minimal note that an account was deleted at its owner's request: a scrambled (keyed-hash) form of the phone number, the version of the terms you had agreed to, and the date. If you were on a paid plan, we also keep the plan and the date it runs to, so that if you come back with the same number you get back what you already paid for. No name, no vault contents, and nothing that could rebuild your account.

Encrypted backups of our database are not edited one record at a time; deleted data leaves them as older backups are replaced on our rolling backup schedule.

Details are in our Privacy Policy. Questions: privacy@willful.in.
